Reettas Röster
Assisting the camera department has fascinated me lately and continues to grow on me every day. I tend to get passionate about any technical aspect I don't fully understand, pushing myself to learn everything about it. I particularly enjoy pulling focus, especially when working with a DOP I know well and whose style I understand.
Jacke, a talented photographer at Mestoil Films, produced a fictional short film called “Reettas Röster”, where I took on the role of camera technician and focus puller. My role was sometimes challenging, especially for artistic shots that required the highest level of sharpness and detail. We often filmed in low-light conditions, which meant opening the iris as wide as possible to let in light. This created a shallow depth of field, making it harder to keep focus sharp.
Overall, I'm very happy with my performance and impressed with everyone’s contributions to this film. Jacke captured some stunning shots, and I'm honored to have been a part of it.
One challenge we faced was maintaining a strong signal with thick concrete walls at our location. Setting up the Hollyland wireless transmission system and the Nucleus lens control system and keeping a reliable signal was tricky and would sometimes lose signal. I solved this by building a lightweight kit for my focus station, staying close to the camera to avoid signal drops, and running a long BNC cable from my transmitter to the director’s and crew monitors. This setup worked flawlessly without any signal issues.
